Tour du Rwanda
The ups and downs of a gruelling race - with Marc Pritzen conquering the mountains
This tour was always going to be a big one - eight stages in the land of a thousand hills.
To walk away with Marc winning the KOM Jersey was a dream come true but for Toby the tour was a bit of a nightmare.
Caught up in a crash on the second stage he broke his collarbone and for him the race was well and truly over. He flew back to the UK for surgery.
"It’s cycling - it can be a tough sport sometimes .... I will be back!" - Toby Perry
As it turned out winning the KOM jersey was the easy part - holding on to it for the rest of the tour was going to be the real challenge. With the team down to four it took grit and guts.
A personal highlight for Henrik was beating Chris Froome in a sprint!
By stage 5 the race claimed another victim - Jakub withdrew due to illness. It was left to Yuhi, Henrik and Marc to battle on with the Queen’s Stage still to come.
The guys had their work cut out for them and had to dig deep to keep the jersey on Marc’s back.
Orange is the new pink!
For the final stages it was a case of pure determination. DS Bosseau Boshoff was blown away by the teams performance.
"What an amazing experience! The boys rode hard and fought every single day. It was the biggest display of never-say-die attitude I have ever seen." - Bosseau Boshoff
